HONEY

What are the favorite plants of our bees?

STATE OF HONEY

Our OPG is one of the largest producers of bee products in Dalmatia. However, unfortunately, due to climate changes and harsh Mediterranean vegetation, our honey production is extremely dependent on the season and they can overlap, thus the quantities vary from year to year.

TYPES OF HONEY: HEATHER, MANDARIN, PLANIKA, FOREST HONEY, DRACA (according to the season)

SIZES OF GLASSES: 1 kg, 250 g, 150 g, 70 g (according to the season)

We are currently the best employer on the island with

24,000,000 happy worker bees in our two apiaries.

Most of all, visitors ask why honey crystallizes?

Well, the texture of honey is very dependent on the interaction of sugar with the honey's minerals, and some varieties need a little help when re-melting if you don't like thick honey. This can be done at a local beekeeper or with the help of hot water.

Also, honey does not have an expiration date, but it is necessary to ensure that honey is stored in closed jars so that it does not absorb moisture from the air and start to ferment.

Heather

Heather is a small-flowered plant that grows in low bushes by the sea. Among the honeys in our offer, heather has the highest percentage of antioxidants and bactericidal compounds (phenols), which is why it oxidizes the fastest.

It has been proven to fight against the biofilm created by bacteria and is traditionally mostly used against cold symptoms. This honey is usually extracted in the period from June to October.

CHRIST'S THORN

This plant grows in the form of large bushes among the terraces. According to research, this honey is rich in iron and zinc and is traditionally recommended for people prone to anemia. It is harvested in the period from May to June.

FOREST HONEY

Forest honey from our Mediterranean forests is the richest in minerals and is traditionally used for digestive disorders. It has a caramel taste and is harvested in June. For other answers about how bees collect forest honey, you will have to visit us in the tasting room.

STRAWBERRY TREE

Strawberry tree is a large bushy plant that was imported to the area of Dalmatia long ago. It is better known for its sweet red fruits that ferment easily, but our bees adore its flower. Planika honey is more bitter than other honeys and crystallizes very easily. In its composition, it is rich in a specific phenolic compound that has a positive effect on fat metabolism in a way that reduces the amount of "bad" cholesterol, it also has the lowest ratio of glucose and fructose in its composition, so compared to other honeys, it is more suitable for diabetics

SAGE

Sage flower honey, a well-known Mediterranean spice, has a slightly bitter taste. Otherwise, it is harvested in May. According to research, Dalmatian sage honey is particularly rich in vitamin B2, which is essential for vision and skin and digestive health. It is traditionally used for respiratory diseases.
